RATIONALE: Radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies can find tumor cells and either kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. Giving radioactive substances together with antibodies may be effective treatment for some advanced cancers. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as irinotecan hydrochloride, fluorouracil, and leucovorin calcium (FOLFIRI), work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as bevacizumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Bevacizumab may also stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking blood flow to the tumor. Giving radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies together with combination chemotherapy and bevacizumab may be an effective treatment for colorectal cancer. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects, best way to give, and best dose of yttrium Y 90 DOTA anti-CEA (Carcinoembryonic antigen) monoclonal antibody M5A when given together with combination chemotherapy and bevacizumab in treating patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

This phase I trial studies the side effects and the best dose of veliparib when given together with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride in treating patients with ovarian cancer, fallopian tube cancer, or primary peritoneal cancer that has come back after a period of improvement, or breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. Veliparib may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Giving veliparib together with liposomal doxorubicin hydrochloride may kill more tumor cells.

This partially randomized phase I/II trial studies the side effects and the best dose of vorinostat when given together with combination chemotherapy and rituximab to see how well it works compared to combination chemotherapy alone in treating patients with human immunodeficiency virus-related diffuse large B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma or other aggressive B-cell lymphomas. Vorinostat may stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Drugs used in chemotherapy work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells, by stopping them from dividing, or by stopping them from spreading. Monoclonal antibodies, such as rituximab, may interfere with the ability of cancer cells to grow and spread. Giving vorinostat together with combination chemotherapy and rituximab may kill more cancer cells.

This prospective, multicentric single arm phase II study is based on the protocol of the international TARGIT-A study. The purpose is to investigate the efficacy of a single intraoperative radiotherapy treatment within elderly low risk patients (≥ 70 years, cT1, cN0, cM0, invasive-ductal) which is followed by WBRT only when risk factors are present. In presence of risk factors postoperative WBRT will be added to complete the radiotherapeutic treatment according to international guidelines.

Estimating the Risk of Plasmodium Vivax Relapses in Afghanistan

Vivax Malaria

This is an open label two-arm randomized prospective study of two treatments for P. vivax malaria. Patients meeting study inclusion criteria will be enrolled and allocated either chloroquine alone or chloroquine plus primaquine (0.25mg/kg/day for 14 days). Patients will be followed-up for 1 year, with clinical and laboratory examinations at each visit. Patients with recurrent P. vivax infection will be treated with the same medication as initially randomized unless contraindicated. Recurrences in the two arms will be compared to estimate the risk of and mean duration to relapse, classify the relapse pattern as early or late relapse and to estimate the efficacy and safety of the study drugs. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) analysis will be used as far as possible help to distinguish between relapse and re-infection. Samples for chloroquine pharmacokinetic analysis will be collected on day 7 from each study subject as well as on the day of recurrence if within 8 weeks of chloroquine

The primary objective of this pilot study is to examine the feasibility and acceptability of a randomized, controlled study of a mindfulness and values-based living intervention targeted at reducing fear of recurrence in breast cancer survivors compared to treatment as usual control. Furthermore, the secondary objective of this randomized, controlled pilot study is to determine preliminary efficacy and effect size of the mindfulness and values-based living intervention compared to the treatment as usual control condition in reducing fear of recurrence in breast cancer survivors.
