Light Therapy to Improve Symptoms in Pregnant Women With Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive DisorderThis study will investigate the effectivenss of bright light therapy(10000 lux white)on pregnant women with major depression disorder.

Role of Inflammation Factors and Insulin Resistance in Major Depressive Disorder
Major Depressive DisorderThe purpose of this study is to identify evidence-based guidelines for treating major depressive disorder to full remission in Taiwanese major depressive disorder (MDD) patients. To achieve this goal, the investigators aim to: (1) evaluate the risks and benefits of adjunctive pharmacotherapies for cognitive and metabolic consequences in MDD, and (2) clarify the shared biological mechanisms between mood, immune and metabolism homeostasis

Peripheral Plasma Micro-RNA and Proteomics Mapping in Depressive Patients, Treated With SSRI Medications...
DepressionA pilot study of mapping the peripheral plasma micro-RNA and proteomics patterns in depressive patients, treated with SSRI medications. It is an observational clinical bio-markers laboratory controlled research with no device. The research includes two groups; one for patients diagnosed of having depression, and will get a standard SSRI medication regimen. Second group is for control subjects without depression. An option for a third group is planned to include first degree relatives of the depressed patients. After giving their informed consents, subjects and patients will go through standard clinical psychiatric interview, and routine clinical lab tests. Clinical standard, specific depression and anxiety questionnaires will be held at four follow-up meetings: at start; after 2 weeks; 4 weeks; and 10 weeks. Subjects and patients will be asked to give blood samples at these points of time for the lab processing: Complete plasma proteomics and specific micro-RNA levels.

Systematic Genetic Analysis of Phenomenology and Treatment Response in Mood Disorders
Bipolar DisorderMajor Depressive DisorderThe primary goals of this work are: a) to establish a unique collection of mood disorder patients across the life cycle, including children, adults and geriatric patients, with well-defined medical co-morbidities and medication treatment outcomes at the University Hospitals Case Medical Center Department of Psychiatry; b) to establish a collection of nuclear families, including both mothers and fathers, of children diagnosed with mood disorders; c) to perform a systematic genetic analysis of the proposed sample repository to identify genes and genetic variants contributing to inter-patient variability in clinical phenotypes and treatment responses. Our primary hypothesis is that genetic variations may underlie individual variability in disease susceptibility, clinical phenotypes and treatment safety, tolerability, and effectiveness.

A Randomized Sham-Controlled Study of H-Coil Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Treatment-Resistant...
DepressionThe purpose of the study is to explore the efficacy and safety of H-Coil rTMS in comparison to a sham H-Coil rTMS in older patients with treatment-resistant major depressive disorder.Subjects will be randomized to receive H1-Coil rTMS or sham H1-Coil rTMS. The acute treatment phase will last four weeks. Treatment is administered daily, 5 days per week (i.e., 20 treatments). Depressive symptoms will be assessed using the HDRS-24. If subjects achieve the pre-defined primary outcome criteria of remission (HDRS-24 score < 10 and 60% reduction in symptoms) they will continue with twice weekly treatment for two more weeks to ensure the durability of the remission. Subjects who do not achieve remission will exit the study after the acute treatment phase of four weeks. The blind will not be broken to subjects until the completion of the study

Evaluation of the H-Coil Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Device - Safety and Feasibility...
DepressionPurpose: To evaluate the safety and anti-depressive response of the H1 Coil TMS Device in elderly patients suffering from major depressive episode. Twenty-seven (27) treatment resistance depressed-patients, 68 years of age and above, currently in a depressive episode. All subjects will receive prefrontal deep rTMS of H1 Coil (42 trains of 2 seconds, 10 Hz, with 20 seconds inter-train intervals, up to 120% of motor threshold), for 4 weeks, 5 days a week, overall 20 sessions.Safety and efficacy tests will be conducted before starting the trial (screening), once a week for the trial duration and one month following end of treatment.

Open Study Assessing the Feasibility of Minocycline in Patients With Unipolar Depression
Unipolar DepressionA single center, open label study assessing the feasibility, safety and therapeutic effect of Minocycline in adult patients with diagnosis of unipolar depression. Up to 30 patients diagnosed with unipolar depression that are in a current depressive episode. The patients will be of all racial, ethnic and gender categories, ranging from 18 to 68 years of age, and have HDRS-21≥20. All subjects will continue to take their treatment with antidepressant medications for the duration of the study. All subjects are prescribed minocycline 200 mg/day orally (2X100 mg) for the first 3 days. than, all subjects are prescribed minocycline 400 mg/day orally (2X200 mg) from day 4 until termination visit (day 35). The primary objective of this study is to assess the therapeutic effect of Minocycline in unipolar depression. The secondary objectives of this study are to assess the therapeutic effect, the feasibility and safety of Minocycline in unipolar depression.

"Mindfulness vs Psychoeducation in Bipolar Disorder"
BipolarDepressive SymptomsThis is a parallel 3-group, multicenter, prospective, randomized, single-blind (evaluator) controlled pilot trial, with a 38- week follow-up. Patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BD) according to DSM -5 criteria for mild depression or subsyndromal depressive symptoms are assigned to one of the following 3 treatment groups: 1) psychopharmacological treatment plus Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT); 2) psychopharmacological treatment plus structured group psychoeducation; 3) treatment as usual (TAU), including standard psychiatric care with standard pharmacologic treatment.

Effectiveness of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation in Depressed Patients
Major DepressionThe purpose of this study is to evaluate clinical efficacy (affective and cognitive) in patients with moderate depression between TMS over the left Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex (DLPFC) with simulated TMS, as well as clinical response when 5 sessions / week are applied vs. 2 sessions / week. All patients will receive 15 TMS sessions as initial treatment (active or sham) and respondents will participate in an TMS follow-up on the left DLPFC for three months.

Emergency Ketamine Treatment of Suicidal Ideation
DepressionSuicidal Ideation1 moreThe objective of the current program of research will be to test whether intranasal ketamine treatment is more effective than placebo in reducing suicidal ideation in suicidal patients presenting for acute treatment in emergency department settings. Secondary objectives will test the effect of genotypic differences in the mu opioid receptor on efficacy of ketamine and the correlation of speech patterns and facial movement patterns with subjective reductions in suicidal ideation after ketamine treatment.
