The Effect of a Brief Online Behavioral Activation Intervention

Depression

Depression is a worldwide phenomena that has a severe personal, social and societal impact. One such impact is an over $200 billion worldwide economic cost. While many treatments exist for depression, many individuals may not receive the support that they need for reasons such as stigma, financial restraints, or limited access to therapists. As such, it is important to assess the efficacy of brief online treatments as an alternative to full length, in-person treatments. A series of studies looking at a brief behavioral activation for depression treatment has shown that participants have reported temporarily improved mood, confidence, motivation and reduced depressive symptoms. It is important to test this treatment in multiple groups of people to acquire additional information regarding brief online interventions. This study seeks to collect participants from online social media sources and compare results to historical data that were collected from a prior research study which used Amazon Mechanical Turk as a recruitment source.

Exercise on microRNA in Osteoarthritis

OsteoarthritisKnee4 more

The present study is a prospective cohort study. This study will be conducted to determine the change in miRNA levels with exercise in knee Osteoarthritis (OA) patients. The main questions that the study aims to answer are: Question 1: Does exercise therapy affect microrna expressions in patients with knee osteoarthritis? Question 2: Does exercise therapy affect quality of life, pain, functional status and depression level in patients with knee osteoarthritis? Participants; demographic information such as age, height, weight will be questioned. Exercises will performed twice a week under supervision and once a week as home program for eight weeks. Before and after exercise treatment, peripheral venous blood samples will taken from both groups. miRNA-146a, miRNA-155, miRNA-221-3p and miRNA-145 gene expressions will studied with the real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) method. miRNA-146a, miRNA-155, and miRNA-221-3p, miRNA-145 gene expressions will studied with the Real-time PCR method. The pain will evaluated with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), functional status with Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), depression level with the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and quality of life with Short Form-36 (SF-36).

An Online Intervention Targeting Depression and Low Reward Sensitivity

Depression MildDepression Moderate

This study aims to evaluate and compare the effectiveness of different online interventions targeting reward sensitivity and depressive symptoms. We hypothesize that behavioral activation, a mindfulness and gratitude intervention, as well as a combination of both, will significantly reduce depressive symptoms and increase reward sensitivity, compared to the waitlist group. In addition, we assume that behavioral activation will have an increased effect on reward sensitivity compared to the mindfulness and gratitude intervention. The investigators will further investigate factors influencing treatment success in another paper based on data of this study (see secondary and other pre-specified outcome measures).

Comparing Message-based Psychotherapy to Once-weekly, Video-based Psychotherapy for Moderate Depression...

DepressionAnxiety

This study is concerned with evaluating an innovative care delivery platform that is becoming widely available but has not been adequately evaluated in a clinical trial. Primarily, this study is concerned with whether text based care is clinically effective, and if that effect is a function of (1) intervention intensity, (2) timeliness and match of therapeutic recommendations and (3) more stable mood and function over time. Based on the existing, yet limited data in the field, there is evidence to suggest that more frequent encounters with a psychotherapist results in better treatment adherence and faster and more stable response to treatment.

Examining the Effectiveness of a Tablet Video Game on Mood and Cognition

Mood DisturbanceDepressive Symptoms

Sustained negative mood and depression are characterized by functional impairment, and significant reduction in quality of life. Cognitive models of depression emphasize the role of impaired cognitive control - the mental abilities determining goal directed behaviors - in contributing to depressive symptoms. Indeed, research findings from subclinical and clinical populations show that depressive symptoms are associated with decreased cognitive control abilities. The THRIVE trial is a double-blind, proof-of-concept randomized controlled trial (RCT). The aims of the study are to investigate the feasibility and efficacy of an innovative, custom-made tablet video game, Legends of Hoa'manu (LOH), which is designed to enhance cognitive control, in alleviating mood and improving cognitive control in adults. Participants with mild to major depressive symptoms will be randomized to receive either LoH or a control intervention. Cognitive control, mood and depressive symptoms will be assessed at baseline, post training, after at a 3-week and a 3-month follow up.
