A Study of the Treatment-Sparing Effects of AEROVANT™ AER 001 Inhalation Powder in Asthma Patients,...

Asthma

A multi-center, Phase IIb, double-blind, randomized, placebo controlled, parallel-group, repeated-dose study in male and female patients with moderate to severe asthma in which patients will be stabilized on AEROVANT then doses of inhaled corticosteroids and LABA will be tapered. The hypothesis is that AEROVANT will improve asthma symptom control and decrease the need for inhaled corticosteroids and LABA, thus improving exacerbation incidence compared to placebo. Incidence of asthma exacerbation is the primary endpoint.

A Phase 2 Study to Evaluate the Safety and Efficacy of Intravenously Administered Benralizumab (MEDI-563)....

Asthma

The study will evaluate the effect of two intravenous dose regimens of benralizumab (MEDI-563) on the proportion of adult subjects with asthma exacerbations who required an urgent healthcare visit for treatment of an acute asthma exacerbation.

Evaluation of Tiotropium 5 µg/Day Delivered Via the Respimat® Inhaler Over 48 Weeks in Patients...

Asthma

The trial is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of 5 µg tiotropium over a 48-week treatment period as compared to placebo. Tiotropium inhalation solution delivered by the Respimat® inhaler will be examined as add-on controller therapy on top of usual care in patients with severe persistent asthma. The primary objective of each trial is to evaluate the long term efficacy of tiotropium over placebo on top of usual care in patients with severe persistent asthma as determined by pulmonary function testing, effects on asthma exacerbations, effects on quality of life, on asthma control and health care resource utilisation. The secondary objective of each trial is to compare the long term safety of tiotropium with placebo in this patient population.

Multisystemic Therapy to Reduce Health Disparities in Adolescents With Asthma

Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Symptoms can include recurring periods of wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. Minority, inner city teens are at increased risk for complications from the disease, possibly because of poor illness management. The purpose of this study is to test the effectiveness of Multisystemic Therapy (MST)-an intensive, home- and community-based psychotherapy-for improving asthma management and overall health and for reducing healthcare costs for inner city African American teens with asthma.

The Health Benefits of Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) for Asthma & Allergy

Asthma

Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are naturally occurring free fatty acids derived from the tissues and milk of ruminant animals such as cows. CLA has multiple biological properties including regulation of metabolism and immune processes, including tissue inflammation. Asthma symptoms are caused by irritation and inflammation of the airways. Our hypothesis was that CLA may reduce airway inflammation in asthma and thus reduce asthma symptoms. The aim of this pilot study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of CLA as a dietary supplement in mild asthma. Subjects will be assigned to take CLA dietary supplements or placebo (olive oil) for 12 weeks in addition to their usual asthma treatment. They will be monitored for asthma symptoms, side effects, lung function and blood markers of inflammation.

Prn Budesonide/Formoterol Versus Regular Budesonide/Formoterol Plus Prn Terbutaline in Mild-Moderate...

Asthma

Study No.001 about Budesonide/Formoterol use in ASthMA sponsored by Agenzia Italiana del FArmaco (Italian Drug Agency) (AIFA-ASMA-BF-001) The aim of the study is to verify whether asthma not controlled by low doses inhaled corticosteroids, thus in need for step up therapy, can be equally controlled by guidelines recommended regular bid treatment with long acting beta agonist/inhaled corticosteroid (ICS/LABA) combination or the symptom driven use of an ICS/LABA combination in the absence of maintenance therapy. The study is designed to be able to evaluate the non inferiority of regular placebo plus prn inhaled budesonide/formoterol (experimental treatment) versus regular, twice daily 160/4.5 mcg inhaled budesonide/formoterol combination plus prn inhaled terbutaline (guidelines recommended treatment).

Study to Investigate the Safety and Efficacy of High Dose of Symbicort® SMART in Japanese Patients...

Asthma

The primary objective of the study is to compare the tolerability of Symbicort® Turbuhaler® 160/4.5 μg 10 inhalations with terbutaline Turbuhaler® 0.4 mg 10 inhalations for 3 days on top of Symbicort® Turbuhaler® 160/4.5 μg 1 inhalation twice a day (bid) in adult asthma patients.
